Dear "Lovers of caves",
Friends, Colleagues and Speleologists
The Athens Olympic Games in August 2004 will be followed by an equally memorable event, the International Congress of Speleology, in August 2005.
The Hellenic Speleological Society and the Hellenic Federation of Speleology, in collaboration with the Ephorate of Paleoanthropology and Speleology of the Ministry of Culture, are organizing and inviting you to participate in the 14th UIS International Congress of Speleology (ICS).
This event will take place on August 21-28, 2005 in Athens, Greece. It will include all types of scientific, exploration, entertainment and social activities. All subjects and activities of interest to caves and karst are welcome at the 14th International Congress of Speleology, for paper presentations, exploration reports, caving techniques, speleo equipment, films, media, art, and more. There will be meetings, conferences, exhibitions, photo contests, leisure events, touristic visits and many excursions to explore and tour caves, archaeological sites and other attractions; and of course, you will enjoy the sea and the beaches.
Athens has a new look after the 2004 Olympic Games: new transport means, accommodations, and conference, athletic, and cultural facilities, all of which shall be available to make the 14th ICS a successful event. August is the perfect month to combine holidays on the beaches or the mountains with caving all over Greece and in neighbouring countries. The Balkans are well known for their karst.
In August 2004 the Olympic games were held in Athens and in August 2005 the Olympic games of Speleology will take place.
An exciting variety of pre- and post- congress excursions, explorations and tourist trips and visits are organized (full details on the web-site). With more than 10,000 recorded caves, Greece still has many unexplored ones that are awaiting for eager speleologists. All types of karst are found throughout the mainland and islands. We expect you to attend the 14th Congress in Athens, in August 2005, to inform and be informed about speleological finds, activities, explorations, research, equipment, photos, maps, and films, from all over the world. We call on you to register early, to take advantage of the registration reductions, to stay informed of all the activities, and we welcome any suggestions you may have for the Congress.
The Organizing Committee and all Greek speleologists await you in 2005 for the best Congress ever!
The ORGANIZING COMMITTEE of the
“14th International Congress of Speleology”
